Nigel Farage Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Racial Topics

Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.

During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.

“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.

“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, not uniting us. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”

Reacting to these assertions, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.

“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.

“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”

Reform, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and seems not to have designated an education lead.

Nonetheless, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, a long-term effort to reform.”

He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.

Paying tribute to a conservative activist, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to what’s happening now where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

Reform has previously clashed with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.

Farage has accused Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.

Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.

National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for students.

At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”

The college, a small private Christian college, provides complimentary classes. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
