The Manager's Position on Celtic

McKenna referred to Celtic as "a really big soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those discussions," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I have a special position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Everything external hasn't reached my radar."

Context and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and announce what they used to be, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna signed a new multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I approach this job like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I will consistently give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker played for the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Wales striker is minded to finish the ongoing global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are currently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but assured of reaching that stage, due to a productive European competition campaign, even if they not end up Group J runners-up.

Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose contract concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
