Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Major Air Traffic Control Outage
Passenger services have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a major technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.
All aircraft movements were suspended because of an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.
A number of travelers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".
However, ongoing issues are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others subject to postponements.
A spokesperson had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.
"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.
Source of the Issue
The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Flyers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are worked through.
